COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lanka Navy has formally received a consignment of firearms, ammunition, and associated equipment belonging to Onboard Security Teams (OBST) on 30 October 2025, as part of its maritime security operations project aimed at providing services and facilities to foreign Private Maritime Security Companies (PMSCs).
The handover took place at the OBST Armoury Complex in Galle, under the provisions of Gazette Extraordinary No. 2449/27 dated 13 August 2025.
This legal framework enables the Navy to supervise and safeguard weapons used by PMSCs operating in Sri Lankan waters.
The Navy has entered into agreements with local representatives of PMSCs, ensuring the secure storage and regulated transportation of OBST firearms and related equipment under naval oversight.
On the sidelines of the event, the Navy engaged with over 20 local representatives from PMSCs, briefing them on naval facilities, safety protocols, and operational procedures, reinforcing its commitment to maritime security and compliance.
