Economic Census to Map Agricultural Workforce

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Census and Statistics has announced the launch of a comprehensive economic census aimed at capturing detailed data on agricultural activities across the island.

The initiative will focus on key sectors such as crop cultivation, livestock management, and aquaculture.

According to department officials, the census will deploy nearly 16,000 officers to conduct fieldwork and gather data from every district. 

In addition to the agricultural census, the department has confirmed plans to conduct a separate survey on industrial and service establishments early next year.
