Indian Chief of Naval Staff Meets Sri Lankan Forces Commanders

COLOMBO (News 1st); Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of Naval Staff of the Indian Navy, commenced a four-day official visit to Sri Lanka, underscoring the deepening partnership between the two nations in the Indian Ocean Region.

Upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport, Admiral Tripathi and his spouse were warmly welcomed by Rear Admiral Dammika Wijewardana, Director General Training of the Sri Lanka Navy.

The visit’s formal proceedings began at Navy Headquarters in Colombo, where Admiral Tripathi was accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour in keeping with naval tradition. He was received by Vice Admiral Kanchana Banagoda, Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, for a series of bilateral discussions.

During their meeting, the two Navy Chiefs focused on enhancing cooperation in maritime security, strengthening operational partnerships, and reinforcing the longstanding friendship between the Indian and Sri Lankan navies.

The discussions concluded with a customary exchange of mementoes, symbolizing the shared values and collaborative spirit of both forces.

Admiral Tripathi’s visit also included courtesy calls on senior Sri Lankan defence officials.

On 22 September, he and his delegation met with Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, at Army Headquarters, and Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, at Air Force Headquarters.

These engagements further highlighted the commitment to regional stability and the importance of multi-dimensional defence cooperation.

The Indian Navy Chief’s visit will culminate with his participation in the 12th Galle Dialogue International Maritime Conference, organized by the Sri Lanka Navy, where regional maritime security and collaborative strategies will be at the forefront of discussions.

Admiral Tripathi’s delegation includes senior officers from the Indian Navy and the High Commission of India to Sri Lanka.
