Sri Lanka’s Healthcare Gets a Billion-Yen Boost from Japan

COLOMBO (News 1st);  Sri Lanka National Hospital—widely regarded as the country’s premier government medical institution—welcomed a high-level delegation for a special inspection of newly installed medical equipment donated by the Government of Japan.

The inspection, was led by Minister of Health Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa alongside Akio Isomata, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, and a delegation of Japanese officials.

The visit focused on the hospital’s Diagnostic Imaging Centre, Emergency Treatment Unit, and Accident and Emergency Department, all of which have been recently upgraded with cutting-edge technology.

The donation, valued at JPY 1 billion, includes a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine, CT scanner, Cath Lab unit, and a wide array of surgical and diagnostic equipment. These contributions aim to elevate the quality and efficiency of emergency and outpatient care services provided to the Sri Lankan public.

Speaking at the event, Minister Jayatissa expressed deep gratitude to the Government and people of Japan, emphasizing the importance of international collaboration in advancing Sri Lanka’s healthcare system. He noted that the current administration is committed to developing the National Hospital and is actively seeking foreign partnerships to support this mission.

Ambassador Isomata reaffirmed Japan’s long-standing friendship with Sri Lanka and pledged continued support for the country’s healthcare development.
