Second Reading of Presidents’ Entitlements Repeal Bill Today

COLOMBO(News 1st) - The second reading debate on the Presidents' Entitlements Repeal Bill is scheduled for today. 

The debate will commence at 11:30 a.m. and continue until 3:30 p.m.

Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne informed the Parliament that the Supreme Court has determined the Presidents' Entitlements Repeal Bill to be consistent with the Constitution. 

Three of the petitions were submitted by Mahinda Pathirana a lecturer at the Sabaragamuwa University, Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's Media Spokesperson Attorney at Law Manoj Gamage, and former Chief of Staff of Sri Lanka Navy, Mohan Wijewickrama.

The other petitions challenging the Bill were filed by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna's Administrative Secretary Renuka Perera and two others.

The petitions were heard before a judge bench of the Supreme Court comprising Chief Justice Preethi Padman Surasena, Achala Wengappuli, and Sampath Abeykoon.
