Government to Establish Task Force to Promote Tourism

COLOMBO (News 1st); The government has paid attention to the establishment of a special task force aimed at promoting the tourism sector.

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, stated that the decision was made with the dual objective of revitalizing the tourism industry and generating direct revenue for the national economy. 

He further noted that the task force will be empowered to make decisions pertaining to the advancement of the tourism sector.

The Minister made these remarks during the inaugural session of the Tourism Promotion Task Force, held recently at the Presidential Secretariat.

During the discussions, emphasis was placed on preparing comprehensive plans for tourism development, ensuring coordinated implementation under a unified framework of state institutions, and addressing challenges faced both by tourists visiting the country and by industry stakeholders.

Attention was also drawn to the importance of developing joint strategies with all relevant state institutions and private sector stakeholders to ensure the upcoming tourism season is a success.
