COLOMBO (News 1st); A delegation led by Namal Rajapaksa, National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), visited the Mahanayake Theros and Anunayake Theros of the Asgiri Chapter of the Siyam Sect.

During the meeting, the group expressed concern over the ongoing hardships faced by war heroes.

In a letter handed over to the Mahanayake Theros, the SLPP emphasized that standing up for those who laid down their lives for the country is a historic responsibility.

Namal Rajapaksa, National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP), met with senior monks of the Siyam Sect to express concerns over what he described as growing injustices faced by Sri Lanka’s war heroes.

Rajapaksa first visited the Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Mahanayake Thero of the Malwathu Chapter, followed by a meeting with Most Venerable Dimbulkumbure Wimaladhamma Thero, the chapter’s Anunayake Thero.

The SLPP delegation then proceeded to the Asgiri Chapter, where they met with Most Venerable Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Mahanayake Thero, Anunayake Thero Venerable Wedaruwe Upali, and the newly appointed Anunayake Thero Venerable Narampanawa Ananda.

During the discussions, Rajapaksa voiced concern over legal actions being initiated against military personnel, particularly the ex-Navy Commander, based on incidents that occurred over a decade ago.

He claimed these actions were being influenced by external diaspora pressure and warned that such moves could have long-term consequences for the morale and integrity of Sri Lanka’s armed forces.

Responding to the concerns, Venerable Wedaruwe Upali Thero emphasized the need for caution and fairness in handling such sensitive matters.

Rajapaksa stated that the SLPP would continue to advocate for the protection of those who served the nation.
