Italy’s Deputy Foreign Minister To Visit Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st); Italy’s Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Maria Tripodi, will undertake an official visit to Sri Lanka from 3 to 5 September 2025, marking the highest-level Italian diplomatic visit to the island nation in nearly a decade.

During her visit, Deputy Minister Tripodi will co-chair the inaugural session of the Sri Lanka–Italy Political Consultations alongside Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra. 

A key highlight of the visit will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a formal Political Consultations Mechanism, aimed at enhancing structured dialogue and cooperation between the two countries.

Diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Italy date back to 1952, and this visit is expected to significantly deepen bilateral ties.

Deputy Minister Tripodi is also scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya and hold discussions with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment, and Tourism Vijitha Herath, focusing on expanding collaboration across multiple sectors.
