COLOMBO(News 1st): Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Colombo National Hospital.
According to Prison Media Spokesperson Jagath Weerasinghe, Wickremesinghe was transferred to the ICU due to dehydration, as recommended by prison doctors.
Wickremesinghe was initially brought to the Colombo National Hospital from the Prison Hospital on August 23, after being arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on August 22 for allegedly misusing public funds amounting to Rs. 16.6 million for a private foreign trip.
Following his arrest, he was produced before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court, which ordered him to be remanded until August 26.
Due to his health conditions, including high blood pressure and elevated blood sugar levels, Wickremesinghe was first admitted to the Prison Hospital before being transferred to the Colombo National Hospital.
Several prominent figures, including Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, have visited him at the hospital to show their support.
