COLOMBO (News 1st); Attorney-at-Law Manoj Gamage, media spokesperson for former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, claims that the government is growing increasingly uneasy over the public’s renewed support for the former leader.
Speaking to media, Gamage stated that in recent days, large crowds from rural areas have been visiting Rajapaksa at his official residence in Wijerama, expressing admiration and loyalty.
He alleged that this resurgence of public affection has triggered coordinated misinformation campaigns on social media, aimed at discrediting Rajapaksa.
One such claim, according to Gamage, falsely suggested that milk brought by supporters was discarded into garbage trucks, which he strongly denied.
Gamage further suggested that the government may be attempting to remove Rajapaksa from his official residence, fearing that this growing wave of support could evolve into a political force reminiscent of the former president’s past popularity.
He noted that leaders like Mahinda Rajapaksa, who have earned the trust and love of the people, will be remembered in history with golden letters.
