COLOMBO (News 1st); Transport Minister Bimal Rathnayake announced in Parliament that the extension of the expressway up to Rambukkana is expected to be completed by December 2026.
Responding to a question raised by MP Sujeewa Dissanayake of the National People's Power (NPP), the Minister emphasized that the project aims to ease traffic congestion in urban areas, where railway lines intersect with roads at multiple points.
Minister Rathnayake also revealed that funding has been allocated for the double-tracking of the Polgahawela–Kurunegala railway line in the upcoming year.
Additionally, the Ministry has proposed 25 bypass roads in 25 towns, including the one in Warakapola, to further alleviate urban traffic pressure.
