Sri Lankan Athletes Win Big At World Athletics Bronze-Level Continental Tour

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka delivered a stellar performance at the ongoing 2025 World Athletics Bronze-Level Continental Tour held in India, clinching a series of medals across track and field events.

In the men’s 400m relay, Sri Lanka claimed the gold medal with an impressive time of 3 minutes, 8.22 seconds.

Meanwhile, Rumesha Tharanga set a new national record in the men’s javelin throw, achieving a distance of 86.50 meters.

His performance not only earned him the top spot in the event but also qualified him for the 2025 World Athletics Championships.

Tharanga currently ranks 7th globally in the discipline.

In the men’s 100m sprint, Chamod Yodhasinghe secured the silver medal with a time of 10.43 seconds, narrowly missing the gold in a tightly contested race.

Sri Lanka’s success extended to the women’s javelin throw, where Nadeesha Dilhani Lekamge won silver with a throw of 54.96 meters, demonstrating consistency and strength.

Additionally, Sumeda Ranasinghe earned the bronze medal in the men’s javelin throw, recording a distance of 80.65 meters, further solidifying Sri Lanka’s dominance in the event.

The one-day meet witnessed 160 women and Men athletes from 17 countries.

Top performers of the events will secure qualification marks for next month’s World Athletics Championships scheduled to be held in Tokyo.
