COLOMBO (News 1st); The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) recorded a statement lasting over six hours from Sagala Ratnayaka, who previously served as Chief of Staff to former President Ranil Wickremesinghe.
He appeared before the CID in connection with an investigation into a complaint alleging the unlawful acquisition of assets.
Based on a similar complaint, former Governor Maheepala Herath also appeared before the Illegal Assets Investigation Division earlier this week and provided a statement.
Police stated that extensive investigations are underway based on bank account details, asset declarations, income records, and intelligence reports related to the individuals involved.
Meanwhile, an investigation is also ongoing into a private overseas trip allegedly undertaken by former President Ranil Wickremesinghe using state funds.
In connection with this matter, the CID has recorded statements over the past two days from former Presidential Secretary Saman Ekanayake and Sandra Perera, who served as a private secretary to the former President.
