COLOMBO (News 1st); An excavation was launched at a cemetery in the Thirukkovil area based on information uncovered during an investigation into Iniyabharathi, an aid to former State Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan, also known as Pillayan, who is currently in detention.
Police stated that no human remains were found during the digging conducted this (31) afternoon.
According to police, the search was initiated following claims that the body of a 23-year-old man, allegedly murdered in 2008, had been buried at the cemetery. The information surfaced during questioning of Iniyabharathi.
Another individual, said to be an aide to Iniyabharathi, is also in custody. Investigations have revealed that this person may have directly assisted in the murder.
Police conducted the excavation after bringing the suspect to the site to help identify the burial location.
