Runaway Crane Truck Kills One, Injures Seven in Multi-Vehicle Crash

COLOMBO (News 1st); A tragic road accident near the Kanatte roundabout in Borella, has claimed the life of one individual and left seven others injured, following a collision involving a runaway crane truck and eight vehicles, police confirmed.

The incident occurred near the traffic lights at the roundabout, where the truck reportedly experienced brake failure and continued moving uncontrollably for approximately 40 meters before crashing into six motorcycles, a car, and a jeep.

The deceased has been identified as a resident of Athurugiriya, who was riding one of the motorcycles involved in the crash.

All injured individuals were rushed to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment. The driver of the truck has been taken into custody as investigations continue.

The accident caused heavy traffic congestion in and around the Borella Kanatte area throughout the morning, prompting police to advise motorists to use alternate routes.
