Digital Trail: 26 CDs of Evidence in Yoshitha's Money Laundering Probe

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court has scheduled a hearing for September 22 in a case filed against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and his grandmotherDaisy Forrest, over alleged violations of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

The case was called today (28) before High Court Judge Sahan Mapa Bandara.

Appearing on behalf of Yoshitha Rajapaksa, President’s Counsel Sampath Mendis informed the court that a forensic audit report had been submitted as part of the evidence. 

He further requested court permission to access and examine 26 CDs containing email communications and several other digital devices used in compiling the report.

The Attorney General’s Department raised no objection to the request.

The case follows allegations that the accused unlawfully acquired assets and property valued at approximately Rs. 73 million, in violation of anti-money laundering laws. 

The charges were filed by the Attorney General.
