Mother Shot Dead in Marawila; 10-Year-Old Injured in Shocking Attack

COLOMBO (News 1st); A woman was fatally shot in the Marawila area, near Madampe-Nattandiya, in a targeted attack that also left a 10-year-old child injured, police confirmed.

According to reports, the shooting occurred last night when two individuals on a motorcycle opened fire as the woman was getting out of a three-wheeler. The assailants used a pistol and a revolver in the attack.

The deceased has been identified as a 30-year-old woman who had recently been released on bail after being remanded in connection with a narcotics-related offense. The injured child is currently receiving treatment at the Marawila Hospital.

A relative of the victim, speaking to the media, said the woman had just returned home with her two children after attending tuition classes. She had briefly left the house again after receiving a phone call, and was shot moments later near a familiar location.

The relative described hearing three gunshots and a loud noise, adding that the woman was ambushed just a short distance from the house.
