13,392 Students Score Straight A’s in O/L Exam

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Examinations has announced that 230,026 students have qualified to pursue Advanced Level studies based on the results of the recent G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) examination. This represents 73.45% of the total candidates who sat for the exam.

Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Kumari Liyanage revealed that 13,392 students achieved straight A passes across all subjects, accounting for 4.15% of the total candidates. Notably, pass rates in core language subjects — Sinhala, Tamil, and English — have shown a marked improvement compared to previous years.

Among individual subjects, Buddhism recorded a pass rate of 83.31%, while English Language saw a significant rise, reaching 73.82%.

Students can now access their results via the official website of the Department of Examinations. 

School principals and provincial education directors have also been granted access to download result sheets, with school-level access available from today and provincial-level access beginning tomorrow.

For students seeking re-scrutiny of results, the online application window will be open from July 14 to July 28.

In response to a question regarding the next O/L examination, the Commissioner General confirmed that preparations are underway to hold the 2026 O/L exam in February.
