COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court has scheduled July 28 as the hearing date for the high-profile money laundering case filed against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and his grandmother Daisy Forrest.
The case, filed under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, accuses the two of unlawfully acquiring assets and property valued at approximately Rs. 73 million. The Attorney General alleges that the wealth was obtained through means that violate financial transparency laws.
Although a pre-trial conference was scheduled for today, proceedings were postponed due to the absence of the presiding judge. The court has now officially fixed the next hearing for later this month.
The indictment includes three major charges, and both accused were previously released on bail following the formal serving of charges on April 4.
