Govt. Announces Guaranteed Prices for Paddy: Deputy Minister Namal Karunaratne Clarifies

COLOMBO (News 1st): Deputy Minister of Agriculture Namal Karunaratne has clarified key details regarding the government’s paddy procurement programme and the guaranteed prices set for the 2024 Yala season.

The government has already declared guaranteed prices for paddy procurement, aiming to support farmers and ensure fair market conditions.

According to the announcement:

Nadu paddy will be purchased at Rs. 120 per kilogram

Samba paddy at Rs. 125 per kilogram

Keeri Samba paddy at Rs. 132 per kilogram

In a significant move this year, the government has also introduced guaranteed prices for moist paddy, a first for such a programme.

The guaranteed prices for moist paddy are as follows:

Nadu – Rs. 102 per kilogram

Samba – Rs. 105 per kilogram

Keeri Samba – Rs. 112 per kilogram
