Deputy Tax Commissioner Remanded For Bribery

COLOMBO (News 1st); Colombo Chief Magistrate Tanuja Lakmali Jayatunga today (8) ordered that K.C.K. Kumara, Deputy Commissioner of the Inland Revenue Department, be remanded until July 22 following his arrest over bribery allegations.

The arrest was made yesterday by officers from the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, based on a complaint filed by a businessman from the Piliyandala area.

According to investigators, the suspect allegedly attempted to solicit a bribe of Rs. 100,000 in exchange for removing an outstanding tax liability of Rs. 1.1 million owed to the Inland Revenue Department.
