COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka's Cabinet of Ministers has approved a proposal to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Sri Lanka Police and the Australian Federal Police.
The agreement aims to bolster efforts to combat transnational organized crime and improve coordination between the two nations' law enforcement agencies.
The MoU will focus on preventing and investigating crimes such as terrorism, cybercrime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, human smuggling, and other forms of organized and cross-border criminal activity. It also seeks to promote the exchange of information, capacity building, and joint operational coordination.
The proposal was presented by the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, recognizing the shared challenges both countries face in addressing increasingly complex international crime networks.
This agreement is expected to strengthen existing cooperation frameworks.
