COLOMBO (News 1st): Special transport services are being operated today (11) to facilitate the movement of pilgrims traveling to Anuradhapura, National Poson Festival.

Railways General Manager Dhammika Jayasundara announced that special train services to Anuradhapura will continue until June 13. 

Additionally, 36 free shuttle trips will operate between Anuradhapura and Mihintale to accommodate pilgrims visiting sacred sites.

The Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) has also deployed 200 additional buses from Colombo to Anuradhapura to support the increased demand during the festival period.

Chairman of the Poson Festival Committee and Anuradhapura District Secretary Ranjith Wimalasuriya stated that all necessary facilities have been arranged for devotees arriving in the city. 

He urged pilgrims to refrain from bringing polythene and plastic items, emphasizing environmental protection during the sacred event.

Furthermore, with reservoirs in the region currently at full capacity, authorities have advised the public to exercise extreme caution when bathing.
