Disciplinary Action Recommended Over Kotmale Bus Tragedy

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Recommendations have been submitted to the Inspector General of Police to take disciplinary action against OICs and Traffic OICs who fail to minimize traffic accidents in their respective areas of authority, on the grounds of dereliction of duty.

These recommendations were put forward by the committee appointed to investigate the cause of the fatal road accident in Gerandiella, Kotmale.

23 people lost their lives in the recent bus accident in Gerandiella, Kotmale.

The investigation revealed that the accident was caused by the driver falling asleep due to extreme fatigue, the front left wheel of the bus veering off the road, and the bus losing its balance and falling into the precipice due to an excessive number of passengers.
