Over 61,000 Power Outages Reported in Sri Lanka Due to Heavy Rains and Strong Winds

Colombo (News 1st); The Ceylon Electricity Board says that more than 61,000 power outages have been reported in Sri Lanka within a 43-hour period ending at 3 p.m. today.

The disruptions have been attributed to heavy rains and strong winds affecting several regions of the country.

CEB Media Spokesman, Engineer Dhammika Wimalarathna, stated that power supply has already been restored to 23,227 of the affected locations.

The highest number of power outages has been recorded in the Western and Central Provinces, which have been heavily impacted by the adverse weather conditions.

Wimalarathna also mentioned that a continuous operation is underway to restore electricity to the remaining affected areas. 

He emphasized that special attention is being given to essential services, including hospitals, during the restoration efforts.

On a typical day, the number of reported power outages in the country is around 4,500, highlighting the severity of the current situation.
