COLOMBO (News 1st); The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has formally requested the Election Commission to allow amendments to two of its submitted nominations for the Colombo Municipal Council.

This request comes in the context of an extraordinary gazette notification issued by the Election Commission, which mandates that the final list of elected local government members must be submitted to the respective District Returning Officers by May 30.

According to the gazette, the names of all elected and appointed members must be officially published before the commencement of the new term of local government bodies.

The notification further states that, despite 21 days having passed since the conclusion of the election, several parties and groups have yet to submit the full list of their designated members.

As per the directive, all political parties and independent groups must submit the names of their appointed members—including the mandatory female representatives—by midnight on May 30 to the relevant Returning Officers of each local authority.

The Election Commission emphasized that if the second set of nominations is not submitted by the deadline, it will no longer assume responsibility for the appointment of those members.
