COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Health has taken legal action against 1,470 individuals within just one week for maintaining premises conducive to mosquito breeding.
According to the National Dengue Control Unit, the enforcement was carried out during a special dengue eradication program conducted from May 19 to 24. The initiative involved the inspection of 128,824 premises across the country.
Of these, 31,145 locations were identified as having potential mosquito breeding sites.
Additionally, 3,916 red notices were issued to high-risk premises, warning owners of the urgent need to eliminate breeding grounds.
The Ministry emphasized that the program prioritized premises inspections, legal enforcement, and issuing red notices, with the broader goals of controlling the spread of dengue and strengthening medical response services.
Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Secretary to the Ministry of Health, stated that the campaign was part of a multi-pronged strategy to reduce the rising threat of dengue and ensure public health safety.
