COLOMBO (News 1st); The five-member committee appointed to investigate the tragic Kotmale bus accident is set to submit its final report to Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Priyantha Weerasuriya later this week, according to committee head Senior Deputy Inspector General (SDIG) Ajith Rohana.
The committee, which is in the final stages of its inquiry, was appointed following the fatal crash that occurred on May 11 in the Geradiella area of Kotmale, claiming 23 lives and injuring over 50 passengers.
SDIG Ajith Rohana stated that the committee will also present a set of recommendations aimed at minimizing future road accidents, once the report from the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic is received. These recommendations are expected to address systemic issues in transport safety and enforcement.
The investigative panel, appointed by the Acting IGP, includes Deputy Inspector Generals Ruwan Gunasekara and Manjula Senarath, Senior Superintendent of Police Manoj Ranagala, and mechanical engineer K.K. Kahingala, alongside SDIG Rohana.
