Parliament To Debate Gazette Relaxing Vehicle Import Restrictions Today

COLOMBO (News 1st); A parliamentary debate is scheduled to take place today regarding the Gazette notification that lifted several restrictions on vehicle imports.

Parliamentary proceedings are set to begin at 9:30 a.m., presided over by Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramanayake.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake issued the relevant Gazette on April 29. 

Meanwhile, the revised National Transport Commission Bill is also expected to be presented to Parliament today for approval.

Acting Director General of the National Transport Commission, Niyomi Jayawardena, stated that several amendments based on modern requirements have been included in the new draft.

The proposed amendments will empower the Commission to regulate fares for three-wheelers, school transport services, and office transport services.

The Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal to amend the National Transport Commission Act No. 37 of 1991 and present it to Parliament in February this year.
