Colombo (News 1st); The Commissioner General of elections, Saman Sri Ratnayake confirmed that the distribution of ballot boxes to all polling centers has been completed.
He said that the process was carried out under tight security arrangements.
Earlier this morning, ballot boxes and related election materials were dispatched from district offices to the respective polling stations.
Chairman of the Election Commission, R.M.A.L. Rathnayake, providing an update on the overall preparation for the 2025 local government elections, highlighted that voters can cast their votes even without an official polling card as long as the voters have a valid identification.

He explained that each polling card will list the names and symbols of the contesting political parties and independent groups. Next to each name and symbol, there will be an empty box.
He said that voters are instructed to place a clear 'X' mark in the box corresponding to their chosen party or group.
Meanwhile, a special security operation has been implemented in view of the 2025 local government elections.
Police Spokesman, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Buddika Manatunga, said that a total of 65,000 police officers have been deployed to ensure security during the election.
He further noted that military personnel will also be called in for support if necessary, depending on the situation and security requirements.
In light of the upcoming Local Government Elections, the Ministry of Education has announced that all schools will remain closed today and tomorrow. Schools are scheduled to reopen on May 7.
Additionally, several public services will be temporarily suspended or limited during this period.
