33 Election Candidates Arrested in Sri Lanka Ahead of Local Polls

COLOMBO (News 1st) In the lead-up to the local government elections, Sri Lankan police have arrested 33 election candidates on various charges. 

The arrests were made between March 3rd and this morning, according to police reports.

In addition to the candidates, 349 party supporters have also been detained during the same period. 

The police have reported three election-related criminal complaints as of yesterday, bringing the total number of such complaints to 89 since the beginning of the election period.

Furthermore, 32 vehicles have been seized by the police for violating election laws.
