COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Education has announced a major update to the Mahapola bursary program, aimed at ensuring timely and efficient distribution of funds to university students over the coming years.
Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Madhura Seneviratne, stated that the University Grants Commission (UGC) has been tasked with updating the list of eligible students and establishing a centralized database to manage the bursary process.
According to the Deputy Minister, the initiative seeks to eliminate existing delays in the disbursement of the Mahapola bursary, which is a vital financial support for thousands of students pursuing higher education.
Going forward, the UGC will directly coordinate with the Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust Fund to distribute bursaries, marking a significant step towards enhancing transparency and efficiency in the system.
