COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has announced a new plan to expedite the trials of child abuse cases.

This decision comes in response to the revelation that approximately 40,000 such cases are currently pending.

The Ministry highlighted the problematic delays in delivering verdicts, which have led to prolonged and challenging situations for the victims.

To address this issue, multiple rounds of discussions have been held with the Ministry of Justice.

The Ministry emphasized the need for swift action to ensure justice for the victims of child abuse, by promptly file charges against the accused to deliver justice to the affected children.

Plans are also in place to seek the support of the Attorney General's Department to accelerate the process of filing charges.
