COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Transport Commission has announced the implementation of an integrated transport plan to facilitate travel for people heading to their hometowns for the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.
The plan will be in effect from tomorrow until April 21, in collaboration with the Department of Railways and the Sri Lanka Transport Board.
During the festive period, the Transport Board and the National Transport Commission have planned to operate long-distance buses centered around major cities such as Kandy, Puttalam, High-Level/Low-Level, Dambulla, and Galle.
Additionally, the Department of Railways has scheduled special train services from Colombo Fort to destinations including Badulla, Kandy, and Galle, supplementing the regular train services.
The National Transport Commission also stated that 350 additional buses will be deployed via the expressway to areas such as Galle, Matara, Badulla, Tangalle, and Kataragama, with key hubs at Makumbura, Kadawatha, Kaduwela, and Bastian Mawatha.
It is expected that approximately 800,000 passengers will arrive at bus terminals in Colombo and surrounding cities during this period, according to the National Transport Commission.
