Russian Ambassador Calls To Lift Trade Sanctions

Hopeful for Improved US-Russia Trade Relations, Ambassador

COLOMBO (News 1st): Russia hopes for constructive dialogue with the current American administration, which could gradually open new opportunities for trade.

Levan S. Dzhagaryan, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Sri Lanka, speaking at an event organized by the National Chamber of Commerce in Colombo addressed the current geopolitical situation and the impact of trade sanctions during a recent conference.

"We are now in a new geopolitical situation. Hopefully, we will have very good dialogue with the current American administration, which will give us the possibility to open the window of possibilities step by step," stated Ambassador Dzhagaryan.

He emphasized that one of the main obstacles to trade is the sanctions imposed on Russia, which he described as illegal.

Ambassador Dzhagaryan highlighted the concerns of many businessmen who wish to establish strong trade relations with Russia but fear secondary sanctions. "There are a lot of businessmen who would like to have very good trade relations, trade cooperation with the Russian Federation, but they are afraid to be subjected to secondary sanctions," he noted.

He assured that the Russian embassy in Sri Lanka is committed to supporting and assisting in overcoming these challenges. "Hopefully, again, step by step, we will try to remove at least some of them. And just in this regard, I would like to assure you that you can rely on our embassy and just we will be also very try to be very useful as much as possible. And we mainly rely on you, your support as assistance," he noted.
