Two Suspects Arrested in Matara for Extortion

COLOMBO(News 1st) - Two people suspected to have been involved in a multiple incidents of extortion have been arrested in the Deiyandara, ​​Matara.

Police said that two pistols and ammunition were found in their possession.

Police said that they received complaints that the suspects had been involved in over 40 incidents of extortion. 

They were arrested while attempting to extort money from a businessman at the Manning Market.

Police said that the suspects had made phone calls to people and introduced themselves as members of organized Criminal gangs, intimidated them, and extorted money. 

The suspects were arrested in a raid conducted by a group of officers attached to the Police Special Task Force and the Colombo North Crime Division.
