COLOMBO (News 1st) - Police say legal action has been taken against nearly 3,000 individuals for failing to comply with the new seat belt safety regulation on expressways.
Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of Traffic Control and Road Safety, W.P.J. Senadheera, said that while most motorists and passengers comply with the law, some individuals continue to violate the regulation.
The safety regulation to wear seat belts by all passengers travelling in vehicles on expressways was made mandatory from September 19.
