COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Environment says there's a shortage of materials needed for the construction of elephant fences.
Deputy Minister of Environment Anton Jayakody said that there is a lack of wooden poles and wires.
Renovation of the damaged fences has already begun, utilizing the available materials.
The government plans to import the necessary materials for the ongoing constructions.
Additionally, the Minister said that newly recruited multi-purpose development officers will be involved in the future renovation of the elephant fences.
