9-Foot Wall at Ratmalana Airport to be Removed

COLOMBO (News 1st); Minister Bimal Ratnayake has directed the removal of a boundary wall at the Ratmalana Airport.

The Ministry of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation stated that this decision was taken following warnings from the Association of Aircraft Owners and Operators.

The Ministry revealed that the 9-foot wall along Galle Road at Ratmalana Airport violates international airport regulations.

The Ministry further explained that due to its location, even a minor technical fault could lead to a major accident if an aircraft were to collide with the wall.

Considering this risk, the Association of Aircraft Owners and Operators has informed the government to remove the wall and replace it with a simple fence that can easily break in case of an accident.
