COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Welfare Benefits Board has informed beneficiaries without bank accounts to open accounts in order to receive their benefits.
The board noted that nearly 6,000 eligible individuals in the first phase of the scheme failed to open bank accounts and thus did not receive their benefits.
The board acknowledged that some individuals are unable to open accounts due to the lack of a National Identity Card. However, it assured that arrangements have been made to open accounts even without the National Identity Card, and Divisional
Secretariats have been instructed about this process.
Beneficiaries are required to obtain a letter from their Divisional Secretariats before December 27th to proceed with opening bank accounts.
