COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs has announced that approval has been granted to allocate Rs.3 billion for the payment of outstanding food and accommodation allowances for police officers.
Minister of Public Security, Ananda Wijepala, stated that due to a lack of funds, these allowances had not been paid for more than three months.
Accordingly, each police officer will receive a minimum allowance of Rs.28,500.
Acting Inspector General of Police, Priyantha Weerasuriya said that the payment of the overdue funds will begin within the next week.
