COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Agricultural & Agrarian Insurance Board says that approximately 375,000 acres of cultivated land have been submerged due to adverse weather.
Chairman of the Board Pemasiri Jasingarachchi stated that crop damage assessments will commence once the water recedes.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Namal Karunaratne announced compensation for six types of crops destroyed by the floods.
A sum of Rs. 40,000 per acre will be provided for completely destroyed cultivated land on which paddy, potatoes, maize, onions, soybeans, and chillies have been cultivated.
