COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has strongly rejected recent false claims regarding the upcoming electricity tariff revision.

In an official statement, the Board clarified that it plans to submit a tariff revision proposal for 2025 to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) before December 6.

The Board explained that, under the current system, the PUCSL had previously rejected its proposal to reduce electricity tariffs by 6 to 11 percent.

This proposal had been based on projected expenses for the last quarter of the year, as well as revenue from the second and third quarters, and loan repayments incurred between 2014 and 2022.

Additionally, the CEB noted that the PUCSL has requested for the tariff revision proposal to be resubmitted, this time focusing on the first six months of 2025, effective January 1, rather than for the final quarter of 2024.

The CEB also pointed out that, due to changes made by the PUCSL officials to the tariff system in the first three quarters of 2024, the Board was not permitted to implement a tariff reduction in the last quarter of this year.

The CEB further emphasized that the loans taken during
2014 - 2022 period was necessary because the PUCSL had failed to revise the electricity tariffs, despite the CEB's prior approval.
