COLOMBO (News 1st): The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka to lift the security advisory currently in place for the US Tourists and Citizens in Sri Lanka.

On the 23rd October, the U.S. Embassy in Colombo issued a security advisory urging American citizens to avoid travel to Arugam Bay until further notice.

Meanwhile, security forces have successfully arrested six suspects in connection with the related incident.

Defence Secretary, (Retr.) Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha engaged on an official visit to the Eastern Province earlier this week, to assess the security situation in Arugam Bay.

The Ministry of Defence said that the Defence Secretary had been briefed on the current security arrangements by local military and police officials.

Following this, based on the findings, the Defence Secretary has instructed relevant officials to take necessary measures to ensure the safety of key tourist destinations in Sri Lanka, including Arugam Bay.

During this process, the Defence Secretary emphasized the need to ensure that tourist safety is maintained without infringing upon their freedom, while also instilling confidence in their security.
