Special Security Measures in Place for 2024 General Election

COLOMBO (News 1st): The transportation of ballot boxes for the 2024 general election will take place today.

According to Sri Lanka Police, transportation of ballot boxes to the main counting centers will be carried out under special police protection.

The transportation of ballot boxes from the main counting centers to the polling stations is scheduled to take place tomorrow.

According to the police, a special security operation for the 2024 General Election has been implemented nationwide, starting today.

As part of this operation, approximately 93,000 security personnel have been deployed across the country.

This includes 70,000 police officers, 10,000 Civil Security Force personnel, 10,000 military personnel, and 3,000 members of police special task forces.

According to the police, 131 permanent roadblocks have been set up across the country.

In addition, temporary roadblocks are being deployed by the police, around 52 counting centers as part of the special security measures.
