COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka Police have established a special operations center to oversee security ahead of the upcoming general elections.
The center will coordinate efforts from multiple agencies, including the Sri Lanka Army, Navy, Air Force, Special Task Force, and Civil Defense Force.

Police Spokesperson Deputy Inspector General Nihal Thalduwa said that surveillance will be conducted using drones, and over 3,000 officers will be deployed across the country. A total of 602 officers will be assigned to mobile patrols, and activities on social media will also be monitored for election-related content.
There will be 54 counting centers across the country, with heightened security in Colombo. Drone surveillance will be used to monitor these centers 24/7, and gatherings around them will be prohibited.
DIG Thalduwa emphasized that the Police have mobilized officers, including riot control teams and personnel for roadblocks, to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of the elections.
