COLOMBO (News 1st); The relationship between Turkey and Sri Lanka has been historically sound and steady, according to Semih Lütfü Turgut, the Ambassador of Türkiye to Sri Lanka. Both nations, strategically located at crossroads, have consistently supported each other on international platforms.
Ambassador Turgut highlighted Turkey's role as a strategic partner in Sri Lanka's tea sector, being a long-term export market for Ceylon tea. He also pointed out numerous other sectors ripe for cooperation, including food, machinery, energy, jams, and pharmaceuticals.
"Turkey is also connecting Sri Lanka to Europe and the Americas with its national flag carrier, Turkish Airlines. This connectivity is instrumental and beneficial to tourism and trade," said Ambassador Turgut. He expressed optimism about the future growth of people-to-people and commercial ties between the two countries.
Ambassador Turgut also extended his gratitude to various local media organizations, for providing a platform to share their opinions and activities with the public.
He emphasized the crucial role of free media in promoting transparency and communication globally.
The 101st anniversary of the Turkish Republic's founding was celebrated in Colombo, with the presence of many diplomats and well-wishes.
The event was organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Colombo.
