COLOMBO (News 1st): The Election Commission has decided that voters will be marked on their left index finger during the 2024 General Election.

Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake said that if a voter does not have an index finger on their left hand, they may mark any other finger on their right hand appropriately.

During the 2024 presidential election, voters were marked on the little finger of their left hand.

During today's Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha elections, voters will be marked on their left thumb.

Therefore, the Election Commission said this measure was taken to address potential issues and confusion.

The 2024 General Elections are scheduled to take place on November 14.
