Large-Scale Police Operation Nets 1182 Suspects

COLOMBO (News 1st);  In a major coordinated operation dubbed "Yukthiya," law enforcement officials apprehended 1182 individuals yesterday (2).

While details remain limited, authorities have confirmed an ongoing investigation focusing on 44 suspect who are held under detention orders.

A joint operation involving the Police Special Task Force and multiple local stations yesterday resulted in the arrest of ten individuals on suspicion of drug possession in the Bandaranayakpura area in Malkaduwawa, Kurunegala.

Around 100 police personnel took part in the operations.

Authorities confirmed that drugs, including cannabis and heroin, were recovered during the course of the raid.

In addition to the ten individuals arrested on suspicion of drug possession, authorities confirmed that 47 individuals identified as drug addicts were taken into custody. These individuals will be referred to rehabilitation centers for treatment and support.

The operation also resulted in the arrest of 138 individuals listed as suspects by both the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Special Bureau.
