Sri Lanka Navy Assumes National Flag Hoisting and Presidential Guard Duties

COLOMBO (News 1st);  In a shift of tradition, the Sri Lanka Navy has officially taken over the responsibility of hoisting the national flag at the iconic Galle Face Green and providing ceremonial guard duty at the President's House.

The handover ceremony took place on December 31, 2023, and 1st January 2024, marking the start of a three-month period during which the Navy will fulfill these prestigious duties. 

This marks a significant change, as the Sri Lanka Army previously held these responsibilities.

The hoisting of the national flag at Galle Face Green is a daily ritual witnessed by thousands of locals and tourists, holding immense symbolic significance. Similarly, the ceremonial guard at the President's House serves as a vital element of state protocol and national security.

Further, the ceremonial events will be carried out under the supervision of Commanding Officer SLNS Parakrama.
